Transport & Product Design BA (Hons) - Coventry University

I studied Transport & Product Design BA (Hons) with Professional Enhancement at Coventry University in 2001/2005. This was a 4 year course, involving a 3 month placement in the 3rd year.

In year 1 we were taught the foundations of product design, learning rendering, sketching and engineering drawing techniques and studying materials in engineering lectures. We also learnt the basics of AutoCAD 2000. The year was ended with a practical ergonomics project building a life-sized buck.

Year 2 involved a spatial/interior project, and introduction to Alias Studio Tools CAD software and a product identity project. In engineering we covered more in-depth subjects, like forces, chassis design and wind tunnel testing.

The third year comprised of group work, in the form of an industry project (working with LTI taxis), a competition for the RSA and finally a 3 month work placement, in which I worked in a team of three on an ergonomic consultancy project for MG Rover. I also opted to take a further aerodynamics module in engineering.

In the final year I completed a minor project, and an 8000 word research report, which formed the basis for my final major project. The final year combined the advanced use of Alias Studio Tools CAD and rendering, engineering considerations, presentation work and full size mock-up building.

I can safely say I gained a lot of valuable knowledge and experience from the course, along with plenty of good fun.
